Why trees matter (and why they aren’t enough—alone)
- Climate regulation: Healthy forests draw carbon from the atmosphere and store it long‑term—in wood and in soils.
- Water & weather: Trees stitch together watersheds, cool cities, and help clouds form. No trees, no stable rain.
- Biodiversity: Forests are living libraries. When we lose them, we lose options—including medicines we haven’t discovered yet.
- Livelihoods: The “green belt” feeds and employs billions. Regenerating it reduces poverty and migration pressure.
Planting at scale must be native, diverse, well‑sited, and maintained. Monoculture plantations or plant‑and‑forget schemes don’t cut it.
